THE FOURTH OF JULY!

Independence Day is the national holiday of the United States of America commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

At the time of the signing the US consisted of 13 colonies under the rule of England's King George III. There was growing unrest in the colonies concerning the taxes that had to be paid to England. This was commonly referred to as "Taxation without Representation" as the colonists did not have any representation in the English Parliament and had no say in what went on. As the unrest grew in the colonies, King George sent extra troops to help control any rebellion. In 1774 the 13 colonies sent delegates to Philadelphia Pennsylvania to form the First Continental Congress. The delegates were unhappy with England, but were not yet ready to declare war.

In April 1775 as the King's troops advanced on Concord Massachusetts Paul Revere would sound the alarm that "The British are coming, the British are coming" as he rode his horse through the late night streets.

The battle of Concord and its "shot heard round the world" would mark the unofficial beginning of the colonies war for Independence.

The following May the colonies again sent delegates to the Second Continental Congress. For almost a year the congress tried to work out its differences with England, again without formally declaring war.

By June 1776 their efforts had become hopeless and a committee was formed to compose a formal declaration of independence. Headed by Thomas Jefferson, the committee included John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Robert R. Livingston and Roger Sherman. Thomas Jefferson was chosen to write the first draft which was presented to the congress on June 28. After various changes a vote was taken late in the afternoon of July 4th. Of the 13 colonies, 9 voted in favor of the Declaration, 2 - Pennsylvania and South Carolina voted No, Delaware undecided and New York abstained.

To make it official John Hancock, President of the Continental Congress, signed the Declaration of Independence. It is said that John Hancock signed his name "with a great flourish" so "King George can read that without spectacles!."

The following day copies of the Declaration were distributed. The first newspaper to print the Declaration was the Pennsylvania Evening Post on July 6, 1776. On July 8th the Declaration had its first public reading in Philadelphia's Independence Square. Twice that day the Declaration was read to cheering crowds and pealing church bells. Even the bell in Independence Hall was rung. The "Province Bell" would later be renamed "Liberty Bell" after its inscription -

Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof

And although the signing of the Declaration was not completed until August, the 4th of July has been accepted as the official anniversary of United States independence. The first Independence Day celebration took place the following year - July 4 1777. By the early 1800s the traditions of parades, picnics, and fireworks were established as the way to celebrate America's birthday. And although fireworks have been banned in most places because of their danger, most towns and cities usually have big firework displays for all to see and enjoy.

MiCHAEL JACKSON

Fond memories of THriller!!!
Handsome and pure
Sweet innocence to sad conformity (then and now)
Now and what should have been
Well, I found out from a friend who lives far away of the three deaths of famous people in one week. Weird how famous people at least seem to always die in three's. Well I grew up loving him and his music and dancing!! Still do!! The last few years or more have saddened me because he wasn't the real thing. Both on the outside and inside he had changed. I believe due in part to insecure feelings and he just happened to have the money to try to change what he thought were faults, thinking it would make him feel better about himself when he looked in the mirror. I also feel his fame went to his head in a unique way and that not one of pride but HIS world. Maybe he thought he didn't have to answer to anyone. I don't know. He is with his Maker and who am I to judge? What I do know is I love what he was. That my sorrow is for that loss...one that happened years ago but now is permanently gone. I watched his last public appearance in March of this year and strangely he said that this was it. That it was the final curtain call. There would be no more. If he was referring to his last tour coming up in July then WOW! I wouldn't say it was prophetic but some how in his subconcious he seemed to know....something..... Listening to CHer and her comments I agree with her. The boy and man she loved and knew was soft spoken, fun, loving, gentle and sweet. That the last time she saw him a few years back he seemed odd not who she had known for years. So what happened to him? Was his behavior change due to drug dependency or abuse? Was it due to all those surgeries and some kind of inferiority complex? Was it from a world he colored to be all about him? Was it all of the above or only some or maybe none of the above?! I am saddened at his passing and at whatever became of the MIchael Jackson we loved! It's like an Elvis Presley curse. Where you love the young thin version better then the wacked out old one. Maybe this is a curse for all those mega stars who lose touch with the world around them.
This is a good example to our children and ourselves that we should remember we are children of God and we are His child and that we were created after His image. We should be happy with who we are and how we look and that no matter what we do to our bodies; from makeup to tattoos, from hair coloring to boob jobs, from face lifts to colored contacts...that we can tend to forget that we are beautiful just the way God made us!! I want to end this on a funny note even though I may add more thoughts as the days and weeks go by and that is that after his death I bet he was more than shocked to discover that cosmetic surgery doesn't apply to your spirit and so now he has beautiful dark skin and afro and a wide normal nose that isn't on the verge of collapsing in on itself like a black hole!!!

One proud mom!! We have our new belts on!

Lorenzo received his belt and I am about to be called up!

Right after our Disnyland vacation we had our dance recital!! Right after that we had a belt test!! Crazy month!! Lorenzo was testing for his Red belt which just leaves him his junior black belt. I tested for my advanced brown belt which is one under the Red belt! INstead of doing the long and boring traditional test our sensei has us put together a fight using all that we have learned and it is much shorter and more fun!! This year the AC broke so between being for practice, our belt test, and a few other martial art form tests; we were in that building for 4 1/2 hours with the temperature outside being 102!!! My makeup, face, and skin all felt like it had melted off!! LOL

Dance costumes

My angel costume!

After I locked Lorenzo up as the witch!!
One happy family....it's over!! LOL
We all had fun!!

At the end of May we had another dance recital. Out of the 3 sections of numbers that involved adults I performed in all 3- Gala, hip-hop, and Hansel and gretel. ( I was a village woman, angel, witch in the Hansel and Gretel part) Lorenzo danced the lead role as Hansel, and Dale danced in two numbers as a bee and as a little gentleman!! It was a blast! It was also exhausting but this time Brandt was able to come and watch in person!

Today is also Lorenzo's 10th birthday! Hard to believe he is that old!! We started his day off with 10 spanks and a pinch to grow on! Then we handed him Dale's gift...a cool outfit to wear! Then dad took him out to get his next gift that would be from Brandt. He also received his first military ID!! Too funny! He really doesn't need it since he looks 8! We took him out to eat at his favorite restaurant Schezwuan! He loves egg drop soup! When he came home my gift to him was a ripstick which he seems to have mastered!! And dinner was my chocolate cake that I grew up with and haven't made for years!!! I think i have it listed under my chocolate section!! Then we slept out on the floor by the fire and watched the movie "Ground Hog Day"!!
He even talked with his grandparents!! Thanks to all those who wished him a happy birthday!!
